Farewell to you, my friend
I heard your words but I did not sense
that the meaning of them was profound
I remember their quiet and collected sound

Now I know that you had to leave
no more pain and no more grief
When I recall the last smile on your face
‘twas so relieved and still with grace

your warmth and hospitality
your unassuming ways
and your non conformity
memories will fade away
I have this certainty
these ones will stay with me

Some nights we both construed the skies
with a blue angel in full rise
all around us only sleeping still
that was the time for the last refill

With a mirror in your eyes and a little owl on your hand
you could crack me up and make me understand
that most of all the trouble on our minds
after all could be easily left behind

how you kept your inner child
your big feet and besides
piano clattering late at night
memories will fade away
